Welcome to gilly-space!mostly the ramblings of a crazy person 2월 6일 A blogger's life for me!Long time no blog.
I couldn't actually remember the last time I wrote something on my space but luckly the mystical powers of msn allow me to see my last blog. After so gallantly defending the world of blogging I then left it over a year and a half before writing anything else. Shame on me!
Ah, so much has happened to me in the time since my last entry. A trip abroad to become fluent in another language, learning to snowboard, getting a job offer, two Christmases, one Easter and one birthday. Today is Ash Wednesday of course, I have been ashed by the priest. I have decided (based upon his sermon) to set some time aside each day for reflection and talking to God. Last year I gave up alcohol but I don't think I've really been drinking much alcohol this year. I think I had some cider the Friday before last...maybe. I can't remember.
Right - I'm feeling a bit blank about what to write now. I think it builds with practice so maybe by the end of lent I'll be a pro again.
Until the next dear readers
Adieu
8월 2일 Blogs are not uselessWell, mostly not useless. I mean, if people don't want to read about the lives of other people then don't sign on to blog sites - it's easy enough to avoid. But I don't really want a big rant about people who complain about blogs. I found a blog yesterday written by somebody who lives in Innsbruck (but speaks English very well) and it's proven very useful in learning a bit more about my new home. So there, useful blogs.
I have to retract a little of my comment about radio 2, despite the response it provoked (one comment - yay!). I like Terry Wogan, Ken Bruce and even Jeremy Vine, but I have to say I very much dislike Steve Wright. Belurgh - has to be the most annoying show ever. I'd rather listen to the radio 1 alternative, Scott Mills.
Right, I must go (I have to put my shoes on).
xx 7월 20일 Radio 2 is the new radio 1That's when you know you're getting old I suppose. When you start to find, like I do, that radio one is full of overenergetic presenters with crazy gimmic shows playing mindless, soundless drivel (most of which sounds very similar to everything else).
Now radio 2, on the other hand, has thought provoking programmes about current issues and some decent music.
I think I really am getting old. Although I do still like some radio one shows, such as Zane Lowe for example.
Right, I left the typing of the blog until right at the end of lunch so I'll have to get back to work now.
Bye!
ps. I'll bring the photos in tomorrow and put them onto the site. I promise Hayl! 7월 17일 Zonks! It's hot in here!Ah.. zonks. Such a magnificent expression. And one, I believe that is enough to rival the likes of 'crikey', 'blimey' and 'yikes'. So that more or less concludes my little alphabet run down (which I started in the balmey days of last August).
And here I am, back in BH. Where I started work not quite a year ago and had all that lovely lunchtime typing. It's been a long time between blog entries but I figured, since I'm here again and with nothing to keep me occupied, I might as well return to the blogging.
That's if I ever get to typing more than a perfunctory paragraph or two - since I might soon wilt from the heat.
Anyways, I can't be bothered to write much more at the moment. Cheerio! 2월 13일 You just wait...Right, I can't leave it on that depressing blog entry for any longer. It's not like I meant to leave it on that anyway, I just didn't anticipate having so little free time this term.
I have to say, I'm not depressed. I wasn't even depressed when I wrote it, just a little frazzled I suppose. And also, I got a bit carried away trying to make my blog sound poetic.
So just a few things before I have to crawl back under the metaphorical heap of work:
1. The olymipics have started! Very exciting stuff, I like a bit of winter sport now and then. In fact, it's got me excited about Innsbruck all over again so I spend most of my lectures now struggling to concentrate against a veritable flood of fancies and imaginings about next year. I can so easily imagine myself skiing all the time, and ice skating. I'll never get there if I don't work though...
2. Driving theory! Aaargghh! Never did I realise how complicated organising a theory test could be. Just when I feel all pleased about finally getting it on a day when I don't have an exam (difficult these days) I go and lose the paper copy of my driving license and have to shell out for a new one, as well as the cost of the driving test I had to miss.
3. I think that's it actually
Ok, that's sorted. Hello to all friends I haven't had a chance to speak to lately, and also those that I have spoken to.
Enjoy your Monday
(and happy valentines to all tomorrow!) 1월 23일 XSo, this is it.
Feeling quiet, reflective and tired. Somehow it seems that however much rest and peace I get, it's never enough, never quenching. I'm really tired. I'm tired of trying, making an effort, thinking, working. I'm even tired of resting, but not being rested. I'm tired of the winter, and the dark and the cold. I long for the summer, the light and the warmth. I'm tired of feeling uncomfortable, alone. I hate the exertions of the day, the demands of society, its expectations.
I'm tired, and sleepy Goodnight all 1월 13일 Werry happy new year! So, long time no space.
Not my fault at all, I assure you. The internet access at my parents house in Wales leaves a lot to be desired, so I just didn't go on the internet all Christmas.
Christmas was great actually, I got to see my family again, which was lovely, and my friends from school. It was really nice to see all those guys again (hello you guys!).
I'm actually not feeling that talkative at the moment (or maybe I'm not feeling typative), so I'll say goodbye and speak to everyone later.
Goodbye!
ps. back in Bristol at the moment 12월 6일 Very good stuffEach Peach Pear Plum, I spy Tom Thumb.
Tom Thumb in the cupboard, I spy Mother Hubbard. Mother Hubbard on the stairs, I spy the Three Bears. Three Bears out hunting, I spy Baby Bunting. Baby Bunting fast asleep, I spy Bo Peep. Bo Peep up the hill, I spy Jack and Jill. Jack and Jill in the wood, I spy Robin Hood. Robin Hood in his den, I spy the Bears again. Three Bears still hunting, they spy Baby Bunting. Baby Bunting safe and dry, I spy plum pie Plum pie in the sun, I spy... EVERYONE!!! 12월 4일 U is for UiscedwrI haven't actually got to U in my cd listen through yet (I'm currently on S for Sex Pistols, Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, Smiths and SOAD) but there's only one cd there anyway. It's by a folk band called Uiscedwr, from Wales. And I heartily recommend them because they're excellent, and because I used to play in an orchestra with their lead violinist, Anna Esslemont.
Right, shameless band plug over. I've been waiting to write an new blog until I actually had some comments on the last one, because I put a lot of effort into my blogs and I need to see that someone's read them before I'll continue to write. So here it is, the new blogness.
Er, today is my 1 year anniversary with Fred, so to commemorate I am going to insert a picture of Fred at the end of the blog. Hopefully he won't mind the publicity, and since I love him so much I think he deserves some recognition.
Also today, I have written a song, and finished writing a better song, that I started writing a while ago. I'm quite proud of it actually, except that there's one word missing. I need something desirable that rhymes with 'me' and fits into the sentence "I need your - - -". I looked in a rhyming dictionary, but since it's a song about someone clinging onto a dying relationship I didn't think "I need your herbal tea" fitted very well, it made me laugh though. Maybe it would fit if a relationship was so completely dead that the only thing left was a mutual appreciation of herbal tea.
Okay, I'd better do some work now.

xxx 11월 22일 Twenty six minutes and fifty five secondsThat makes me officially 63rd place in the Bristol Athletics Union/SCA 5 Kilometre fun run. Woo hoo! Never done a run before, an official one, so I'm feeling pretty proud of myself. I ran it all without stopping for water or air or walking either.
I know that 5K isn't exactly that much, and loads of people reading this could probably run it in their sleep, but I'm rather unfit so 5K is a big deal for me. Plus I got a free t-shirt and mug for my efforts, and I'm going to cherish them forever! Maybe next time I'll do the half marathon instead. I might need a bit more training though...
So, yeah. This week is reading week! However, unlike many of my peers, I have decided not to go home (it's not like there would really be anyone there anyway), but to stay in Bristol and spend the majority of the week actually in my room doing work. Yesterday I wrote out my German presentation slides, tried some of the reading assignment, and did some maths in the afternoon. Today I have been working on the professional studies report that has to be in next Wednesday. I've compiled quite a bit of it, and added suitable amounts of bullshit to make it sound better. It's really the only time you get to use words like 'moreover' and 'furthermore'. I think I might try writing a transcript for my German presentation tonight, or maybe doing some of the CES sketch (although that should only take 15 minutes or so because it's the kind of work I spent most of my gap year doing).
I've got to L for Libertines, Limp Bizkit (don't say it, I know everyone thinks they're rubbish but it was the soundtrack to my troubled teens), and the Lost Prophets. K was a bit of an eclectic mix (Kasabian, Kings of Leon, Korn, Kula Shaker) but I'm definately looking forward to M because loads of great bands/musicians begin with M (Maddy Prior, Matchbox 20, Sarah McLachlan, Metallica, Muse...). Right, that was a sneaky way to air a bit of my music tastes, but the best way to get comments I reckon, because loads of people feel strongly about music.
Anyway, better get back to professional studies (or go and make a cup of tea)
xxx 11월 19일 Sex sex sexHa! Grabbed your attention, didn't it?
No, I'm not going to talk about sex, that's far too personal a subject, and some people reading this might be offended. So.. um... not sure exactly what I should be talking about.
Right, well. Ooh last night I had a really weird dream that I went to visit my brother Keith in Manchester and it was snowing really hard. Keith and I went driving along a big patch of ice to go ice skating and we met Paddy and Phil and Graham from civil engineering because they were going to a concert. Weird huh? Quite cool though, I'd love to go ice skating. Maybe next year in Innsbruck I could go every day after lectures.
So, at the moment I am sat in my room with Fred, who I'm trying to concentrate on talking to whilst typing at the same time. And I've got as far as Greenday in my alphabetic run through of my cd collection (I like the alphabet - listened to Godsmack and Goldfrapp this morning). So I'm listening to Greenday and waiting for people to turn up to my house party. Hopefully it's going to be great. If anyone is reading this and lives close to me then come along, should be a laugh.
Yesterday I went to see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which really should be called 'Harry Potter and a brief synopsis of the Goblet of Fire'. Good film, but the editing was rather brutal. Fred agrees.
Right, I think that's enough for the night. I'd just like to say a big hello to Talullah, who has revealed herself to be a reader of the continuous blogging. HELLO!
Until the next! xx 11월 14일 Randomness and randnormalityOoh, and Radnorshire, for all those Welsh's out there. Especially Alys, who I've just found out reads my blog. Yay, more readers!
I'm listening to Uranus. Yes indeedy. I know that I should be doing soil mechanics because I only got 5/10 on the test last week and I want to resit tomorrow, but it was only a little mistake anyway and soil mechanics isn't exactly hard. So I went onto itunes to look for Mars (from the planets) because we're playing it in wind orchestra at the moment. And listened to the clips of the others and thought I'd download Uranus too, because it sounds cool. Not as cool as Jupiter though - that's the main affair (I've got it on cd). I wish I could fly into space and visit the planets and hear them making all these cool noises. I wonder why Holst didn't compose a tune for the earth. If you know, then leave a comment.
Right, enough of the planets.
I have a little problem with some people (who shall remain nameless), who've been criticising my blog, and saying that it's stupid and sad to write a blog. I'd like to disagree on this matter for the following reasons.
1) Firstly, it gives me some vent for my thoughts and opinions, which is always useful. Otherwise I'd be spouting opinions and thoughts about tights etc during the day, and I'd probably annoy a lot of people (I can get quite weird).
2) It helps me to keep in touch with people I don't normally speak to, generally because I'm too lazy, but sometimes because they are also busy. Or maybe with people I don't really know well enough to have long phone conversations with.
3) It lets these random friends, aquantainces and relatives see into my life a little bit, and have a look at the weird stuff that I don't normally talk about chance meetings because it would be weird, or because I'm tired and I haven't had a cup of tea yet.
4) My blog is open to the general public, so any curious party can have a look and be glad that they themselves have sane normal friends, with sane normal conversation topics.
So there you see. Not stupid, clever really. Let the blogging continue!
xx 11월 10일 Quality, quotients, queens, queer happeningsAnd other things beginning with Q. I don't know, I couldn't think of a better title. For those who've just tuned into my blogs, the reason I'm struggling to find a title beginning with Q is because I kept having problems finding titles so I decided that alphabetical would be the way to go (see blog entry 'Alphabetical', in August sometime). Well, anyway, I've come in early to do some design work, but there's nobody in the design office and I'm not clever enough to do the work on my own so I thought I'd go to the computer room and look up Brunel or something for my mini German presentation today. Except, I haven't even done that yet because I've been checking email. I wanted to work on the presentation yesterday but the internet at my house wasn't working - not sure why. Right, I'd really better do some work. Especially if I want to go to Innsbruck next year. Tchuss! 11월 2일 Plenty excitedAbout many things:
1) Driving lessons going really well (I drove all the way back from the downs, past a huge roundabout, three sets of traffic lights and up the hill filled with cars).
2) Cool bluesy music on the moment making me feel groovy
3) Possibly going to live in Innsbuck next year, so I can go skiing loads and learn to snowboard and play in the snow and have fun fun fun!
So there it is, plenty excited.
Anyway, I should be doing work because that's what I told people I was going to do, and Fred is coming round in a bit because we're going to the Watershed cinema in town to watch 'Sophie Scholl'. I don't know what to cook for dinner. I have lots of vegetables and a squash so I could make a mashed vegetable thingy. I don't know. I think I've got some tuna somewhere too.
Also, I have some pictures to put on my space today, from my little holiday in Scarborough, so check those out (if you want to, it's not enforced).
xxx 10월 30일 Oh! For the wings of a dove!Or rather, the wings of an eagle, a bat, or perhaps a flying squirrel. Well, a dove isn't exactly the ultimate bird of choice is it? I always thought that a dove was just a white pigeon, and they're just flying rats.
So, it's a little while since I've written a blog (not sure exactly how long, and I can't be bothered to go and look) and that's because I've been mucho busy with civil engineering 1st year. Or perhaps it's only that I've filled my evenings in the past week with dancing, parenting (of civil children), watching Wallace and Gromit with Fred, dancing more and visiting relatives (Mark). By the way Mark, you have no right to criticise my blog, it is a lazy person's sole means of contacting the masses. Scorn me not.
Yeah, so over the weekend I journeyed to Cardiff, to an empty halloween party, which was lovely. And today I have done maths, German and church. I'm quite liking the priest at St Bons actually, he gives the kind of sermons that makes you want to stand up in a purely American evangualist way and shout "hell yeah man, Jesus loves you!". But, being a restrained Catholic, I'll just absorb the wisdom and try to use it well, or that's the intention.
Right, I've run out of things to say. So I'll retire to my sofa to watch Mrs Doubtfire (auf deutsch).
Gute nacht!
xxx 10월 20일 Nothing and everyting.....which is a good title because it covers all topics, and sounds very intelligent. It's difficult to write about nothing. Because nothing is the absence of anything, so surely the spaces between my words are saying more about nothing than the actual words themselves. But then is that nothing? Or is it just absence? Because absence is something, otherwise we wouldn't be able to comprehend it. I tried to think of nothing once, as a meditation technique. And I found it surprisingly easy. I thought of the closest thing to nothing, which for me is water because of it's transparency and purity. And then I cut out the sound of the water, and the sight and then I was thinking of nothing. But I ruined it by thinking "hey! I'm thinking of nothing". On a lighter note, today I am wearing bright green tights, which is fun. What would be more fun is if everyone was wearing green tights, or just any tights at all. It makes me laugh (quietly) to imagine all the men in the computer room wearing tights instead of trousers (hee hee). So there you are, some deep reflection and a little bit about tights. Enjoy! 10월 17일 More about tilesThe most interesting subject in the world - or so it appears. Never before have I had so many comments about one subject! So, to Hayley's tile problem. I've seen the tiles and I agree that they're not all that wonderful. Aren't they patterned though? It might be quite difficult to paint over patterned tiles. It depends on how much money you want to spend I suppose. But then, tiles aren't that expensive. I would go for new tiles, like the pretty turquoise ones in the shower in Queen's building (why is there a shower in the engineering department?). Or, if you can't afford/be bothered to put new ones on then you could paint over them in a complementary colour to the bathroom. And now for a contact lens check. I've got to have air blown in my eyes - woo hoo! Not looking forward to this much, especially since it could cost me £25. Keep with the comments, I'm bad with emails so it's a good way to stay in touch with random friends. ps. I had a funny dream that everyone in my civil eng class went to yoga together - how random! 10월 12일 Learner Drivers! That's me! A learner driver. Shortly after the oncoming (perhaps
looming - always a good word) properties of matierials lecture, a
deadly force will be once more unleashed onto the roads of Bristol (or,
more specifically, the roads around the downs). Yes indeed, myself and
my good driving instructor, who I believe goes by the name of Pete
(can't quite remember), will take to the roads in an attempt to drill
some rudimentary traffic laws into my poor tortured brain. In other words, I'm having my second driving lesson (not counting the smattering I had 2 years ago) this afternoon. Today I aim to turn the car on properly, and to remember to check my mirrors before signalling. Things are going well. I still have 20 minutes to kill before the lecture, maybe I'll share some of my thoughts on tiling: I quite like tiles, they come in all shapes and sizes. I do find it quite annoying though when they're used in bathrooms or kitchens, because it's so difficult to clean the grouting. Surely someone could invent easy clean grout, couldn't they? I also think it's quite cool when you look at the retaining walls on the sides of the motorways, and the tile there are hexagonal shaped/ Why is that? Is it for effect or does that particular shape work better? Please leave your comments on tiles. 10월 11일 Klingstedt surnamed Swedes and other important vegetablesSuch as turnips I suppose. I don't know, maybe if you're in the north of England then they're the same thing anyway. So, I'm being very swotty with my work so far this term (not difficult because I haven't really been given any work to do anyway). But I've been writing up notes in a neat, organised way, and doing extra reading about management and other soft systems things. Not much else to say really. I'm going to the gym this afternoon (about 4-ish), which is quite good of me because I'm usually really lazy and can't be arsed. I'm making a special effort this year. So if anyone who reads this uses the gym then good going! Hopefully for the next blog I'll be back on my usual witty form, tantalising the nation with my thoughts and comments. Until then...x 10월 10일 Just when you thought I was gone forever......I'm back! Back in the new-improved form (with added enthusiasm). It's been a case of long time, no internet connection. Because little brother Keith grew up and went off to uni in Manchester, taking his internet connection with him, and both my housemates and I are too disorganised to have found an internet provider for our house in Bristol yet. It's on my 'To Do' list. Anyways, thankyou for the comments - it warms my heart to know that someone out there is actually reading my drivel. Johan, you had your chance to tease and insult me at the union, but feel free to add any extra insults as we pass in the corridors. (Thankyou also for your comment Hayl, say hello to Jake for me). I have no idea who Cap'n'B is (if I should know you then I apologise for not recognising) but I like your description of me as a 'newspaper reading primate' (or something along those lines. I assure you that not all blogs are permanentaly depressing. I consider myself to be quite an optimistic person, so you'll have to go elsewhere for dreary feelings. I think that about covers it so far, I'll have to write a little more often from now on. x 9월 15일 I love life! No, I really do. Not in a copycat-Pulp-'We love life' kind of way but in a genuine life-is-a-zingy-exciting-thing kind of way. It feels so great to get back from a week in Scarborough with my cousin Mark, having seen friends from there that I've missed not being in touch with; and then to come back to Llani and see Alice and Hayley and little Jake.
Alice is all engaged and off to Bali soon and it's been really nice to spend time with her again. And Hayley and Jake are both really good - Jake is learning to walk.
And now Fred is off to Germany and I'm really missing him but I love life so much!
Wooooo!
And I know this year has been hard, what with Nana dying and Nan getting ill, but I know that whatever happens I have a huge friend and family network to keep me strong. So I want to thank everyone in that network, you're all great, and life would totally suck without you all.
Enjoy today!
9월 2일 Hiccups and home treatsHello!
Having just typed in the title for today, I think my hiccups have finally dissipated - although that remains to be proven.
So, yes. Hello. Er... completely forgotten what I was going to talk about...
Oh, home, that was it. So, home! Exciting stuff huh? Not really actually, all I seem to have done at home this week is read copious amounts of Harry Potter, and watch Charmed a little (or a lot) too often. I've done some oil painting too I suppose. But I don't really feel guilty about not doing anything because I've previously been getting up at 6 every morning for the past 2 months. And there's not much to do here anyway; and I'm going to Scarborough next week to visit my cousin Mark so I'll be doing stuff then. So for the moment I just consider it to be a slightly extended lazy weekend.
At the weekend I'm going to Chester with Katie (my sister, for those of you who don't know me), because she's moving there to start work and she wants to see what it's like, and we both need to buy some new clothes.
Well, that's my fun life at the moment. How is everyone else? Oh, and just so I don't feel guilty anymore about my complete lack of organisation: happy birthday to Rich Milner and James Kelly, whose birthday's were in February and March, and to Kat, whose birthday was in July. I'm sorry I forgot your birthdays, but hey - you know me!
And also sorry to Hayley, whose birthday I didn't forget, but the only way I could wish her happy birthday was by text, and I'm not sure if she got that. I'll be in touch tres soon Hayl (I have a birthday present for you).
Ooh, and hello to Fred (my gorgeous boyfriend) who is probably still my only reader, so he deserves some recognition.
Right, better go (hiccups definately gone)
xx 8월 31일 Goldilocks is deadWell, maybe not dead. Let's just say she's gone on a short holiday to the Bahamas or something and she's left Pippi Longstockings in charge for a couple of weeks.
Fairytale analogies aside, you may or may not be able to guess that I have, in fact, dyed my blonde (although much disputedly) hair, red. At least, it was meant to be red - it's actually a kind of orangey red that paint shops normally classify as 'burnt umber'. Not quite sure exactly what umber is, but my head looks like it's been covered in the stuff, and then set on fire. I've got to say, I quite like the effect, and it's not permanent anyway so it doesn't matter if I don't like it. My mum hates it, she's lamenting the loss of my 'beautiful blonde hair', so I guess in her eyes Goldilocks really IS dead. (Don't worry mum, she's coming back!)
Another exciting thing is my recent arrival back in Wales. I arrived on Monday actually, and I must have been one of the only people to have their journeys made easier by the bank holiday. It took me only 3 hours to get home on the train, that's got to be a record! Considering that last time it took me 8 hours, I was pretty impressed.
So, Wales is nice as usual. Last night I went to a global action meeting about saving the environment, which is something I'd quite like to do occasionally. And today I've been throwing away old clothes which don't fit me. A surprising amount don't fit me actually, maybe I should be worrying...
I've just been into town and bought a piece of canvas board and a paintbrush - I'm hoping to finally have a go at oil painting this afternoon.
Anyway, I've typed for far too long now, so I'd better go and get creative! (after cleaning the kitchen)
Until next time
xx 8월 26일 Finally finished! Finito!Since this is the F blog entry, I though it fitting that it fell on the last day of this summer's work placement. So that's it, finito! No more paid work until next summer. No more long walks to the station at some bizarre time of the morning, no more daily decrease of my back account by £3.70, no more
"The train now standing at platform 7 is the 08:22 alphaline service to Portsmouth Harbour. Calling at Keynsham, Bath Spa, Trowbridge, Westbury, Warminster, Salisbury, Romsey, Southampton Central, Fareham, Cosham, Fratton, Portsmouth and Southsea, and Portsmouth Harbour. A trolley service of drinks and light refreshments is availible on this train. Platform 7 for the 08:22 alphaline service to Portmouth Harbour"
Impressive memory huh? Or maybe I've just heard it too many times. Well, chances are I'll have to stay in Bath next year anyway, so no more train journeys.
It's been a long 8 weeks, and it'll be nice to go home but I think I'm going to miss the regularity of work. And all the people, of course.
But I'll be back next year! With a vengeance!
MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA! 8월 25일 Expatiating on fire and classical musicNo, expatiating isn't a posh way of saying peeing (or anything rude). It's my new word of the day.
Epatiate (ex-PAY-shee-ayt)
Verb: To talk at length, or to take a long walk or journey.
So therefore, I shall henceforth expatiate on the occurences of my day so far.
This morning I set my kitchen on fire! Well, not exactly my whole kitchen, but there was a huge flame. I was making breakfast using up the egg, sausage and beans that had been in the kitchen for days, and I was cooking a fry up. I put too much oil in the pan, but I thought "it'll probably just be a bit greasy". So I was cooking the sausage and I needed to turn it over so that the other side would cook too, but i couldn't find the turny-over-thing. Instead, I tipped the pan to roll the sausage over, but the oil caught fire and the whole pan was covered in flames. Oops!
Well, anyway, the fire went out pretty quickly, so my kitchen is safe now (yay!). Let's just hope my landlady isn't reading this - she wouldn't be too happy to hear of my lack of fire safety.
Work is going a bit better today (a lot better considering yesterday's blog - which was a bit over exaggerated). I've finished the deadly boring stuff and now I'm actually working on some interesting spreadsheets (woohoo!). And to make it all extra great, I've brought the right cd with me today (I got it mixed up yesterday), which means that I'm listening to Bruch's violin concerto in G major at the moment. Also on this cd is the Pastoral Symphony, Shostakovich's 2nd piano concerto in C minor, Holst's Jupiter (from the planets), Pachabel's Canon (which I'm not so keen on) and the amazing, beautiful, exquisite Fantasia by Vaughan Williams (at least, I think it's by him - sorry if I've offended some other composer by mistake).
I mean, bands are great, rock music is great, but it's usually only 4 or 5 different instruments. Nothing quite rivals the rich texture you get from a symphony orchestra - where there can be 100 different instruments playing at once.
Okay, so today I recommend you go out and listen to an orchestral piece today. Not Mozart though. Try one of the Russian ones, like Tchaikovsky or Rachmaninov. I also recommend Shostakovich, Sibelius and Dvorjak.
And always practice fire safety!
